Joe Nawrot-Adams, Wisconsin

I took this 8-point deer in Adams, Wisconsin using my Jennings Buckmaster PWC bow. I took the deer on 9-19-01. The deer weight was 185 pounds field dress, had a 16" inside spread.

I was hunting a river bottom and I had seen a few does and when it was time to go back I got down using my API Grand Slam Supreme climbing stand. I put it on my back and was on my way home when I got to the corn field. I looked up and saw the deer. He looked at me so I grunted with my mouth. He put his head back down and started feeding with the light fading. He must have thought I was a deer. I was trying to figure out if he was a 8 or 10 pt. but could not tell.

I slowly took an arrow out of my quiver and put it on my bow, and then I had to put my release on. This was a shock to me because I did not expect to see a deer on the way walking home so I drew the bow back and held it for at least 3 min. There was a branch hanging over and I could not get a shot. Remember, I still have my tree stand on my back even when I shot, it weighs 21 pounds. He took a few steps and I got my anchor point, put the pin on him and shot. He went about 50 yards and when I shot I was still in shock. The NAP Thunderhead 85 did its job, as well as my gold tip arrows.
