It was pitch dark when I entered the woods. I sprayed myself with the Scentaway spray before I entered the woods. I worked my way up the mountain and sat in an area where I had seen five deer and lots of sign two days earlier.
I sat for 30 minutes and then started a two-minute grunting and rattling sequence. I used the "True Talker" call, using both doe bleats and soft grunts. I then scuffed up the ground/leaves with a stick for about 10 seconds. Next I used the Hunter's Specialties Rattle Bag. After two more grunts and some more scuffing of the ground I put the bag down.
Within seconds I heard a noise coming from the top of the ridge. It was a buck heading right for me. I grunted two soft grunts and got ready for a shot. The buck slowed down and then stopped for a second at 50 yds. I squeezed the trigger on my Thompson Center .50 cal "Blackdiamond" muzzleloader and the buck ran about 60 yards and dropped.
He dressed out at 190 pounds and had a 9 point rack. This was the third deer I have actually rattled in but the first that I have had a chance to shoot (I was using a bow for the other two).
I was so excited that I actually pulled a mature buck in for a 50 yd. shot by rattling and grunting. I hunt the mountains a great deal and I bought the Rattle Bag so I could put it in my pack and carry it easily. The True Talker is a product I've used for two years and actually shot a 6 pointer in 2001 using it with both doe bleats and soft grunts.
You have great products and I'm going to use more of them. Keep up the great work.
